So was I once myself a swinger of birches.
And so I dream of going back to be.
It's when I'm weary of considerations,
And life is too much like a pathless wood
Where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs
Broken across it, and one eye is weeping
From a twig's having lashed across it open.
I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth's the right place for love:
I don't know where it's likely to go better.
I'd like to go by climbing a birch tree
And climb black branches up a snow-white trunk
Toward heaven, till the tree could bear no more,
But dipped its top and set me down again.
That would be good both going and coming back.
One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.
~Robert Frost~

I will admit that I do act like a child a good bit of the time, which I don't feel is necessarily a bad thing. I am not referring to throwing temper tantrums, or pouting, or anything like that (although I have done that a few times in my life *s*), but to using one's imagination, believing in possibilities, and just enjoying one's mere existence. Mind you, I do know that as an adult, I have certain responsibilities and actions I must take...but I think it's just as important to keep a little bit of your "inner child" in your soul.

So here is my special place for all those things I love that are often seen as quirky or eccentric, but also a lot of fun. *s*

Faeries ~ From Fairy Godmothers to the Fae of Celtic and British lore, faeries of all types, shapes, and sizes appeal to me. While I don't believe in little winged creatures that flutter to and fro, the fantasy realm they exist in is a wonderful one to visit. *s* I am especially drawn to the beautiful depictions of faeries by various artists...pictures of a world so far removed, yet similar to, our own. And, deep, deep, down, underneath all the ordinary, mundane things, I believe there is a wee bit of the fae in my soul. *s*

Children's Literature ~ I have been a bookworm for as long as I can remember, and while I do read "grown-up" books from time to time, none of them compare to reading some of my favorite books from childhood. In my humble opinion *s*, the secret to a really wonderful book is one that appeals to both children and adults. My favorite "children's" author is L.M. Montgomery, who created the "Anne of Green Gables" series, along with many other works (a number of which were written for adults). I also have a fondness for the "Ramona" series by Beverly Cleary, the "Betsy~Tacy" series by Maud Lovelace, the "Little House" series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, as well as the works of Madeleine L'Engle, Cynthia Voigt, and Judy Blume. Have pity for my children, because I will make them read all of the above! *s*
